Tahira Askari Physiotherapist Sumner Park 4074

Tahira Askari is a passionate physiotherapist who always does the best for her patients. She has experience in different sectors such as musculoskeletal, cardiothoracic, neurological, orthopaedic, and community physiotherapy. She also has experience with NDIS patients, children, as well as soccer and AFL players. Tahira grew up in Pakistan before moving to Australia. Australia presented new challenges and new opportunities. Channelling her determination and hard work, she received an offer to complete a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Griffith University just six months after arriving in Australia. During her studies, Tahira overcame several barriers, including adapting to a new culture and language. Her efforts were rewarded when she graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. She was also awarded multiple scholarships, and the Griffith REACH award.

Tahira has experience working as a sports trainer for both AFL and soccer, rehabilitating NDIS patients, and working with children as a childcare provider. She has also volunteered as a walk organiser for the Heart Foundation to promote cardiovascular health. Tahira is a keen promoter of a healthy lifestyle amongst all age groups and ability levels. Tahira belongs to a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background, speaking Dari, Urdu, and Hindi in addition to English. As part of her extracurricular activities, she has worked with the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia, which has heightened her understanding of barriers of CALD communities in different sectors of life, including accessing healthcare and physical activity. Tahira is especially enthusiastic about promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing barriers to health in CALD communities.

During her musculoskeletal training and while working as a sports trainer, Tahira realised her passion for Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy. She believes that compassion and empathy is the first step for patient-centred care. She continues to grow as a person and as a physiotherapist at Alpha Physio, and works hard to provide her patients with evidence-based care, education, hands on treatment, and exercise prescription.

During her spare time, you will find Tahira playing with her nieces and nephews, in the gym, binging Netflix, reading books/poetry, or cooking something which she doesn’t want to cook!
